Volkswagen signalled its intention to bring back a proper coupé to its range with its Iroc concept at the Paris Motor Show in 2006. Back then the German firm could hardly contain its excitement and pretty much admitted that the Iroc would be produced and badged Scirocco. That's a name that has not been seen on a Volkswagen since 1981, though Volkswagen hopes that the new coupé will be able to repeat the first Scirocco's tremendous success.
Like its predecessor the new Scirocco is a hatchback, making it a bit more useful than some of its competitors - its rear seats folding to make the boot even more spacious. Sadly, the transition from concept to reality has meant that the production car has lost some of the drama of the original show car, but even so it's still a good looking car, which VW promises will provide an exciting drive. We're looking forward to finding out.
