Mercedes-Benz C 63 AMG

Many, us included, predicted that Merc's new missile on wheels that is the C 63 AMG would cost significantly more than its Audi and BMW rivals, especially as it wins most Top Trumps hands thanks to a massive 6.2-litre V8 squeezed under that power domed bonnet.

If the bodywork struggles to conceal the mechanicals underneath, spare a thought for the rear tyres and the Merc's superb seven-speed automatic 'box, as they have to somehow transfer the engine's 451bhp and 443lb.ft of torque to the road. Despite those heady figures and a decent specification, the AMG is priced at a relatively reasonable £51,000 or so, taking the new Lexus IS F head on.
