We have started watching what Nissan's North American sports-luxury brand, Infiniti, is up to with keen interest over the past year or so, as the company will be setting up a standalone dealer network in Europe later in 2008. In New York, two new models debuted - the G37 Coupe and the EX crossover.
Admittedly, the EX was displayed in 'concept' form, but we've been told that little will change in the development to a showroom-ready model. The EX and G37 are both based on the global 'FM' platform, which means a rear-wheel drive bias with the engine set well back in the chassis for improved balance. Both cars are likely to be sold in Europe too.
The G37 Coupe will be the first application of a new 3.7-litre V6 engine. Though having its roots in the 3.5-litre V6 found in the Nissan 350Z, this is a comprehensive reworking and includes an advanced Variable Valve Event and Lift system that is said to have the ability to improve fuel economy and emissions at the same time as releasing more power.
