A very special version of the (let's face it, pretty special as it is) CLK 63 AMG Coupé made its world debut in New York sporting the coveted 'Black Edition' tag, which is only applied to the more driver-focused AMG Mercedes models.
Power from the high-revving, sonorous 6.2-litre V8 has been upped slightly to the magic 500bhp mark, but this car is all about hard driving, particularly on track. Indeed, if you're a regular Formula One viewer you may recognise some of the car's styling add-ons, as the Black Edition is closely related to the official safety car, with a new front apron, bulging wheelarches and a rear diffuser.
This is far more than a styling exercise though, as the changes are all designed to ensure the car can withstand sustained track driving with no ill effects. Bigger brakes, an adjustable suspension and even active rear axle cooling make sure of that, while the interior has been upgraded too to give it a rawer feel, including the widespread use of carbon-fibre.
