Everyone's got a Porsche, right? Well that might be true of the mere Boxster, Cayman and 911, but not the Carrera GT. It was created after Porsche developed a racing car and the rules were changed, leaving them with an expensive new V10 engine and clever chassis that needed using. Racing's loss was millionaire car nuts' gain, the Carrera GT being built as a road car for wealthy customers. And at around £320,000 you'd need a healthy bank balance to afford Porsche's hyper-car. It was sold around the same time as Ferrari's Enzo, the two cars offering similar performance.
Unusually, it is the Porsche that is the trickier car to drive, it being a manual car compared to the Enzo's easy to use paddle-shift. That's meant many stalled Carrera GTs and red faces, but master it and it rewards tremendously. Around 1,200 were built, but that's a tiny number to spread around the world, celebrity owners including Tiger Woods, Ralph Lauren and Thierry Henry.
