Nissan pulled much the same trick with the X-Trail a while back, claiming it as all new, but looking all but identical to the old car. Until we get up close with the new Murano in Geneva we're not sure whether Nissan has pulled another all-new-but-looks-almost identical trick, or has just refreshed the existing car with some new lights and body panels. Every single panel is said to be new, but there's no mistaking this new machine as the wonderfully curvy Murano.

Underneath that swoopy SUV body is a revised version of the 3.5-litre V6 petrol and CVT transmission. Performance is up, as is economy and that gearbox now shifts far more quickly and smoothly. But the Murano is about looking good, and ensuring it does so even in the tough urban environment is Nissan's Scratch Shield Paint, an elastic resin coat finish that helps prevent any scratches from damaging the base layer paint.
