At the Geneva Motor Show this year, the eccentric Swedish supercar maker, Koenigsegg, launched the CCXR, a new version of its proven CCX optimised to run on bio-ethanol. On the face of it, it's a noble move, reducing the car's CO2 emissions and that of its fuel, but look closer and you'll see the real reason.

Thanks to the inherent properties of the fuel, an engine (particularly a forced induction one) can produce significantly more power when running on bio-ethanol in comparison to even 'super' unleaded. Koenigsegg has managed to extract a claimed 1018bhp from the CCXR and 782lb.ft of torque, figures that soundly trounce the regularly-fuelled car's 806bhp and 678lb.ft. Needless to say that performance will be out of this world, with a potential top speed in excess of 250mph.

Current CCX owners that are 'green' with envy (sorry) will be able to purchase a factory conversion too.
