Nissan's 'Z' coupe range actually began when the cars were still called Datsuns, and despite so ill-advised versions in the '80s, the Z badge still has a strong following. When Nissan launched the 350Z, everybody sat up and took notice, not just dyed in the wool fans. A few years on and the 350Z is accepted as one of the best sports cars on the market for the price.
The 350Z's recipe for success is pretty simple: mix a butch, but distinctively shapely coupe with a soulful 3.5-litre V6 and rear-wheel drive. Sprinkle on feelsome controls and a snug two-seat cockpit and voila, a winning combination is born. For your £30,000, you could afford the GT Pack version, with a pumping stereo and leather interior amongst its standard equipment. On the road, the 350Z is a joy to drive down a twisty road, though it is at home on a long cruise too despite its stiff suspension. It's our pick of the bunch for all-round desirability.
