Though it is now twelve years since the McLaren F1 was put into production, this British supercar is still referred to in reverential terms by people 'in the know'. Rightly so too; the F1 was a completely new type of supercar and it has stood up well to comparison to nearly every new supercar launched since.

In the Supercar Paddock of the 2006 British Motor Show, we spied an example of the incredibly rare McLaren F1 LM. Only five examples of the LM were produced for sale, all in 'Papaya Orange'. This colour pays tribute to Bruce McLaren himself; he used a similar hue for his race cars. The F1 LM was actually created to celebrate a Le Mans win in 1995, in which five of the seven McLaren GTRs entered made also made it to the end.

Differences between the regular F1 and the LM version include a modest weight reduction, much more downforce (thanks to a large rear wing) and specially designed alloy wheels.
