iPod In-Car FM Transmitter

Until this very month it was illegal to use your own FM transmitter in your car, which was a real shame, as there are loads of mini transmitters out there available designed specifically to transmit the music from your MP3 player to your car stereo without the need for wires. Finally the powers that be have caught up with the technology and now these devices are allowed and they make great Christmas presents.

You'll find plenty of options, but our favourite is the iTrip from Griffin, an American gadget maker that has a whole range of iPod specific items to sell you. The iTrip comes in various guises, depending on the type of iPod you have and basically allows you to broadcast your music from the iPod to your car stereo. Actually, it could be used in the comfort of your own home too, but that's not how it is marketed.

You can choose the radio frequency too, to ensure that your car stereo isn't getting mixed up between your own tunes and the dodgy local radio station. Griffin offers a version that charges your iPod at the same time as transmitting, though that takes from the whole 'wireless' philosophy a tad. The neatest version is for the iPod Nano, with prices generally less than twenty quid. A Xmas stocking filler for sure.
