Vauxhall Corsa

One of the most significant new cars at the London Motor Show, in terms of sales at least, is the all-new Vauxhall Corsa. Though the Corsa is also sold throughout Europe as an Opel, the world debut will be in London.

The initial photographs show that Vauxhall continues its aggressive design trend with the new Corsa, echoing the Astra Sport Hatch, though vaguely similar to the new Renault Clio at the rear. The three-door version has a more coupe-like profile than the larger practical five-door, in a similar way to the Astra range. It is likely that these pictures show a Corsa fitted with the Sports package, which will include 17-inch alloys and a lowered ride height.

There will be five engine options to begin with, including 1.0, 1.2 and 1.4-litre petrol versions. Until a VXR model is unveiled, the diesels will be the stars of the range, starting with the 1.3-litre CDTi unit and rising to a new 1.7-litre turbodiesel with about 125bhp.
