Cadillac SLS
It appears that General Motors is quite keen to adapt the Cadillac brand to whatever country it is being sold in. For instance, we can now buy the Cadillac BLS saloon here in Britain, a Saab 9-3-based saloon that was developed specifically with European buyers in mind. Likewise, Cadillac has developed the new SLS saloon exclusively for the Chinese market. It made its debut at this year's Auto China show in Beijing.
Based on the familiar Cadillac STS, the SLS has a new interior and is 100mm longer. The latter change was effected to increase rear seat legroom. Apparently, the luxury car market in China is dominated by buyers that like to be chauffeur-driven, so the SLS has been developed expressly for that purpose. No efficient turbodiesels in sight either; the Chinese market gets 2.8 and 3.6-litre V6s and a 4.6-litre V8. The SLS will be built at the Shanghai General Motors plant.
