Evolution VIII 260

With all the headline-grabbing power figures being bandied around these days, it was surprising to find Mitsubishi raving about its new 'low' power version when it launched the simply-titled Evolution VIII 260.

Power output was rated at a relatively modest 261bhp, backed up by an ample 355Nm of torque. Let's get things into perspective here; that's still a fair chunk more shove than the best of the hot hatches on offer today and the Evo 260 was still fitted with Mitsubishi's astounding four-wheel drive system.

Very un-Evo like is the more modestly proportioned rear spoiler and exhaust pipe, but for those reasons alone and this car's suitability to family duties, as well as back road bashing, means that it will remain in our hearts as one of the best of the breed.
