Hyundai Genesis Coupé

Given the name, surely Hyundai's new Coupé should have been unveiled backed by a track from Genesis. It wasn't, instead a rather ropey covers act - Joe Rockstar - thrashed out the tunes at the Hyundai's main event. Hyundai wasn't messing around either - no static unveil here, the Genesis making its debut in full-on power-sliding, doughnutting and tyre-smokin' glory. And Hyundai has every right to be excited about its new coupé, as not only does it look great, but it promises to drive well too.

The technical layout is the right specification for driving fans, the Genesis being rear-wheel drive. Power comes from a choice of a 3.8-litre V6 or a four-cylinder 2.0-litre turbo, the V6 said to deliver around 310bhp and the turbocharged four in the region of 223bhp. That's enough to ensure the V6 gets to 62mph in less than 6 seconds, which should frighten America's archetypical Ford Mustang. It's possible that the Genesis will be reaching Britain too, and it's difficult not to get a little bit excited about the prospect of BMW and Merc-rivalling rear-wheel drive coupé at Hyundai prices.
