Nissan underlined its green intentions at the New York Auto Show by bringing along a 'Denki' Cube concept. Denki is Japanese for electric, giving a clue as to the power source for the cool cuboid machine. In the capitol city where almost every second car is stretched, the Denki Cube follows suit - it featuring a 9.4-inch increase in length. Although the extra space in the funky interior will be welcome to passengers, it's been done to accommodate the batteries that power the Denki Cube. They're pretty special; being lithium-ion they deliver around twice the energy of conventional batteries, Nissan working with a newly set-up company to dramatically increase future battery performance while reducing costs.
With its electric spark grille and hidden tail-lights the Denki is purely a concept for now, though Nissan did announce it'll be selling conventional petrol powered versions of the new Cube in the USA and Canada in 2009. All we want to know is when can we have it here?
