When this one landed on our desk we initially though it to be quite a good idea. After all, as Ford's made up Automotive Lens Specialist, Dr Rolf Apilo, is 'quoted' as saying: “Skiers can buy prescription goggles and some divers wear prescription masks so why should the motorist be left out?” It kind of made sense, this April fool being initially being pretty convincing as there's a tiny - and we're talking infinitesimal here - shred of a good idea in it.
If it hadn't been April, and Ford hadn't littered the press release with obvious pointers to the joke we might just have been hoodwinked. But calling its windscreen research team the Ford Automotive Lens Specialist Engineers (FALSE) and going on to mention bi-focal options and prescription mirrors confirmed that the Ford press team is pulling our leg. Good effort though.
