Although Toyota is currently hogging all the limelight when it comes to hybrid technology, Honda has been there from the start with its own version. At the Geneva Show this year, it was announced that the UK would get a larger allocation of the Civic Hybrid and the company's commitment to the technology was displayed in the form of the rather unusual Small Hybrid Sports Concept.

The concept's title leaves nothing to the imagination. Here is a potential replacement for the much-loved Honda Insight, a stylish, agile coupe with a hybrid powertrain. The emphasis is very much on the fun side, though fun with a conscience, as the car's low weight, slippery design and low rolling resistance tyres will all conspire to keep fuel consumption to a minimum. In return, most of those things should also enhance the driving experience. We're told that a production version will be in Honda showrooms in 2009.
