Saab Aero X

Sweden is already well on the way to using bio-fuel as a real alternative to petrol and Saab has been one of the main proponents of the technology. Realising that customers in the UK want to do their bit, a bio-fuelled car is available in each of Saab's model ranges. None of the production cars yet come close in excitement to the fabulous Saab Aero X concept car though.

Saab's designers clearly took influence from the company's aeronautical background in the design of the show car. The distinctive glasshouse incorporates a single huge canopy that allows access to the cabin for both occupants. It eliminates the traditional separate windscreen, doors and A-pillars and provides a dramatic centre-piece.

Stunning looks aside, this concept is as much about what conceivably lies beneath. A twin-turbocharged V6 engine channels 400bhp to all four wheels for a 0-62mph time of 4.9 seconds and an electronically limited top speed of 155mph. That may not sound very green, but the concept is fuelled by 100% bio-ethanol, a sustainable energy resource that has the capability to drastically reduce the car's CO2 emissions. What's not to like?
