A few people might remember that Honda has already made a hybrid car named Insight, the cool coupé maintaining a loyal following. Honda is hoping this new Insight will follow its success, though appeal to a much wider market. To do so the new Insight takes the shape of a five-door family hatchback, which will immediately broaden its potential market reach.
Honda aims to sell 200,000 Insights a year, taking the fight to Toyota's Prius. Officially still a concept. the Insight on display in France this week is essentially the production model with some motorshow jewellery. It will mark a growth period for hybrids from Honda, the company claiming that the new Insight will be joined by a sporty hybrid and Civic and Jazz based models in the near future. Significantly reduced production costs mean Honda will be able to offer its new Insight at a competitive price, meaning those families that need wheels, but want to limit their outgoings in these tough financial times are able to afford it.
