We recently travelled to the Lotus factory and in the process discovered a few tantalising pieces of information about the company's display in Geneva. The official word was that there would be something new, something green and a couple of gorgeous women to distract the photographers...
With just days to the show, it looks like that "something new" is the extreme 2-Eleven trackday car. For about £40,000, the 2-Eleven will be sold in two formats, one of which will actually be road legal! Let's face it though; this car is unashamedly designed for use on track. It is expected that the 2-Eleven will be used by trackday regulars, but its specifications stand up to the FIA's scrutiny too, so we wouldn't rule out a one-make race series.
The regular Exige/Elise can be vaguely seen under the more extreme open bodywork and the 2-Eleven features the same supercharged Toyota engine. Power has been upped to 252bhp though, so combined with the ultra low kerb weight of this car, performance will be nothing short of electric. The 2-Eleven also features a new development of the Elise's chassis and other key components, such as an oil cooler, will be included.
As for the stand on Geneva, we will have to wait to see what the something green is...
