Paris supercar: Lamborghini Estoque

After several weeks of teaser pictures Lamborghini finally revealed its Estoque four-door concept to the press at a pre-show event in Paris. Unveiled by Stephan Winkelmann, CEO and President of Automobili Lamborghini, the Estoque is officially a concept from the Italian marque but a production model is likely.

What's all the fuss about?

Anything wearing a badge from Lamborghini at a motor show is going to cause a stir, but a radical new concept that pushes the company into new areas is certain to be a show star. Lamborghini has been promising that it will display new models at major shows for the foreseeable future and the Estoque highlights just how a four-door Lamborghini might look. And it looks absolutely sensational, Lamborghini's stylists managing to translate the marque's dramatic lines into a sleek four-door shape. A riot of creases, the body has real tension, yet there's an elegance to its muscularity too. We have no doubt Lamborghini fans worldwide will be calling their dealers today and placing sizeable deposits.

Just how fast is it?

With the Gallardo's LP560-4's V10 engine and that air-cleaving shape the Estoque should easily break through 200mph. Like its production relatives Lamborghini's four-door concept features permanent four-wheel drive, enabling it to use its massive power output. The benchmark 0-62mph sprint should be achievable in around four seconds, the Estoque one of the fastest ways to transport yourself, three passengers and luggage, around. Lamborghini hints at other possible powerplants for its four-door, including a turbocharged V8 engine derived from the V10, a V8 hybrid and even an 'extremely high-performance TDI'. It's a sign of the times when Lamborghini is talking about diesels.

Will I ever see one on the road?

Officially the company line is no. The Estoque is meant to be a concept model only. Forget what Lamborghini's people are saying in public though, as this concept should almost certainly reach production in the next few years. It would give Lamborghini a model to compete with Ferrari's 612 Scaglietti and forthcoming four-door supercars from Porsche and Aston Martin.
