Porsche 911 GT3

The 997-series 911 model range is almost complete and Porsche has saved the best until last. The 911 GT3 on show in Geneva is the most focussed and rawest 911 you can buy, this racer for the road delivering a pure 911 experience to the those drivers who demand the sharpest, lightest and most intense 911 drive possible.

What's all the fuss about?

Any new 911 derivative will always create a fuss but the GT3 always creates the biggest. That's simply because the GT3 represents the 911 in its purest form - its roots firmly entrenched in motorsport. It looks sensational on the Porsche stand in Geneva, the new GT3 wearing its large front splitter and rear wing with real authority. It has every right to too, as this GT3 promises to be every bit as exhilarating as the car it replaces, but with even more performance and poise.

Any new technology?

The GT3's engine has seen a capacity increase to 3.8-litres, power swelling to 435bhp. That's enough to allow the GT3 to reach 62mph in just 4.1 seconds and 99mph in double that. The GT3's driving arsenal includes Porsche Active Suspension Management and Porsche Stability Management with the facility to deactivate the Traction Control and Stability Control separately for high-speed track driving. Other new additions to the GT3 include centre locking nut wheels and the option of Porsche Active Drivetrain engine mountings.

When can I buy one?

Form an orderly queue as, despite the economic climate, the GT3 is certain to be a big seller. Hardcore Porsche drivers love them and will already have their deposits paid with their dealers in time for an autumn delivery.
