Saab 9-3X in Geneva

Saab brings a pumped-up 9-3 with all-wheel drive and Audi allroad-aping bumper over-riders and underbody protection to give 9-3 buyers a pseudo SUV model.

What's all the fuss about?

The talk on the Saab stand in Geneva is more about the firm's survival rather than the 9-3X model it is adding to its range. There's no denying that the 9-3X is a smart looking addition to the range though, the chunkily-styled wagon certain to appeal to the numerous winter sports enthusiasts who flock to the Alps around Geneva every year. It's hoped that the 9-3X will compete with cars like Audi's new A4 allroad and Subaru's Outback model, the Saab coming with all the extra protection and increased ride height of its rivals.

Anything that stands out?

For Saab the 9-3X is a bit symbolic of its struggle to introduce new models in recent years. After all the 9-3X is basically a body-kitted 9-3 estate with four-wheel drive. What's really absent from Saab's stand is any genuinely new or exciting model in the vein of the numerous cool concepts it has rolled out in recent years.

When can I buy one?

The 9-3X will be available to order this summer with deliveries happening shortly afterwards. Get one just in time for next winter's freak snowstorms to ensure you can get into work regardless of conditions...
