Porsche begins legal challenge on Mayor

A campaign against changes to London's Congestion Charge has been lodged by Porsche.

An official application has been made by the sports car company for a judicial review by issuing its case in the High Court of Justice.

Porsche contends that an increase to £25 for cars that produce more than 225g/km of carbon dioxide is unfair and disproportionate.

This claim is backed up by Porsche's belief that the revised C-charge will damage air quality in London rather than improve it.

Managing director of Porsche Cars GB Andy Goss said: "Not only is this new tax on motorists unfair, it is also an illegal use of power by the Mayor of London.

"Our case is about protecting Londoners from a new tax that will fail to reduce CO2 emissions in central London while increasing congestion and damage air quality."

Porsche has requested that the proceedings be dealt with quickly due to the limited time before the new charge is due to be enforced at the end of October this year.

The company first sent a letter to the Ken Livingstone, the Mayor of London, in February to outline its claim against the C-charge.

Porsche says the Mayor has failed to respond adequately to its claims and it has been forced into taking legal action.
