Porsche's 1973 RS remains an absolute icon in Porsche's history. Featuring a 2.7-litre flat-six engine it wasn't so much the engine's relatively modest power (210bhp) that made it a giant killer, instead it was the lightweight revisions Porsche made to the car. Introduced in 1972 the RS was built to get around homologation rules to allow Porsche to race it. Huge success on track followed, the 911 Carrera 2.7 RS still winning races decades after its introduction. The most obvious signifier of this most special of 911s is the small ducktail spoiler and Carrera scripting down the flanks.
Considered the 911 to have among many Porsche fans, the 2.7 RS was built in surprisingly large numbers. That doesn't mean that they're affordable though, the 2.7 RS commanding huge money today.
