E-Class Coupé shown in Switzerland

The Mercedes-Benz stand at Geneva contains not just one new E-Class, but a pair of new debuts. The saloon is joined under the bright lights by its two-door coupé relative, bringing all the technological advances and economy of its saloon relative in a sexier two-door body.

What's all the fuss about?

Two Mercedes debuts at one show highlights that, despite a failing world market for cars, Mercedes is committed to pushing on with its model range expansion. The E-Class Coupé will replace the CLK when it arrives in the UK, and a convertible model is almost certain to follow it within the next twelve months. Along with its sleeker looks the E-Class Coupé promises to be an entertaining drive, each model in the range coming with 'Agility Control' to adapt the suspension automatically to the driving situation.

Anything that stands out?

The E-Class Coupé might be all about looks but Mercedes hasn't forgotten the environment with its stylish two-door. With much the same engine and transmission line-up as its saloon relative the E-Class Coupé returns some remarkable economy figures. The E250 CDI BlueEFFICIENCY Coupé for instance delivers a CO2 figure of 139g/km and 53.3mpg on the official combined consumption cycle. With 204bhp and a thumping 369lb.ft of torque, this model promises to be quick off the mark, too.

When can I buy one?

Prices for the E-Class Coupé will be announced soon, though Mercedes dealers will happily take a deposit off customers looking for one of the first to arrive in the UK. That should be in June this year if you're in the market for this clean coupé.
