Though it's been on sale for a number of years, the BMW Z4 has not really aged. This is helped by the fact that a) it was an advanced and unique design to start with and b) like the 350Z, the 2006 model has received a freshening up as well as the addition of a fabulous Z4 M model, complete with the straight-six from BMW's all-conquering M3.

To award first place to the Z4 based on the presence of the Z4 M model would be a little unfair given the price of the other cars here, but a six-cylinder Z4 is still on the cards and buyers will not feel short-changed. Where the BMW does beat the 350Z is on cabin ambience especially so on the new versions. Like all new BMWs, the Z4 is blessed with wonderfully tactile switchgear and excellent driving controls. There is a wide range of engine options too to suit your budget, though the 350Z pips the BMW for value for money in our eyes.
