Mazda will further demonstrate its commitment to reducing the weight of its cars with an innovative lightweight concept at the Paris Motor Show. Named Kiyora - meaning clean and pure in Japanese - the concept is said to demonstrate the harmony between driving pleasure and environmental and safety features. The Kiyora's designers imagined the city car cutting through the urban landscape, its sweeping lines said to be inspired by flowing water. It shares a number of design signatures present on current production Mazdas and recent concepts, the front in particular showing a strong family resemblance to concepts like the Furai. Unlike the wild Furai racer concept the Kiyora is fitted with a four-cylinder direct injection engine featuring a Smart Idle Stop System that stops the engine when the car is stationary. That powertrain combined with its lightweight construction and aerodynamic efficiency ensures the Kiyora returns excellent economy and emissions. Despite the lightweight construction Mazda promises high levels of safety, the Kiyora utilising an all-new platform. Although certain to be the star of the Mazda stand the Kiyora will be joined by a facelifted MX-5, and new diesel versions of the Mazda2 and Mazda6 in Paris.
