Honda Jazz, Space oddity

It's big. Very big. This is the supermini that put 'super' into the name, as in super-sized. The Honda Jazz really is vast inside, with the sort of passenger and luggage space that rivals mini-MPVs and hatchbacks in the class above. Honda has added clever features like a flatter fuel tank, flip-and-fold seats and all manner of other space-saving trickery to make the Jazz big enough to carry practically anything you could imagine.

Being practical alone isn't the Honda's only selling point, as it drives with real maturity too. The cabin feels light, airy and beautifully built, though the ride can be a bit jittery. There's no diesel option, but with both the 1.2- or 1.4-litre petrol engines boasting combined consumption figures of over 50mpg that's not such a worry. A clever car that's brilliantly engineered, the Jazz is well worth a look.
