Lotus Elise S

The diminutive little Lotus roadster would almost fit in your Xmas stocking and certainly could fit under the tree. It's also (relative to all the other options presented here) quite affordable. You'll notice we've opted for the new Elise S and I bet you're wondering what that is?

Well, unlike the Exige S, the S-branded Elise is the new entry-level model, but don't for a minute turn your nose up at the idea. No, its 134bhp isn't going to win any bar room Top Trumps competitions and there will be the occasional 'hairdresser' jibes, but the latter will only be from people that don't know any better. All versions of the Elise are superb driver's cars and the lack of power in the S makes the Elise no less of a car. Indeed, we think it's one of the most-rounded members of the extensive Elise and Exige family you can buy.

Find one of these on your drive on Christmas Day and you'll not make it home to carve the turkey...
