VW Up! trio
VW has revealed a new concept at each of the last three international motor shows, all previewing the forthcoming Up! range of city cars. Bologna marks the first time all three show cars have been exhibited in the same place so they should cause quite a stir.
In Frankfurt, the first Up! made its debut, in the form of an ultra modern three-door city car, designed to be long lasting and timeless yet featuring the most advanced infotainment system and a versatile interior. VW quickly followed this up(!) with the Space Up!, a four-door version in the same design language, but with a significant amount of extra room.
The third instalment utilised the Space Up! platform and replaced the rear-mounted engine with a bank of lithium-ion batteries and a new high-temperature fuel cell to create the Space Up! Blue. There is huge interest in this car at the moment, especially as VW has admitted that it is working on a production version.
