Unsurprisingly, the B9 Tribeca (why not just call it the Tribeca?) went down a storm in the US, despite its grinning face. The US market is very different to that in the UK, and our US friends are not adverse to a big shiny grille or two. It comes as no surprise then that the B9 is currently intended for the US, Canadian and Chilean markets only, and is even being produced in Indiana.
Subaru already makes two 'crossover' vehicles in the shape of the Impreza-based Forester and the Legacy sired Outback. The Tribeca goes a step beyond, with Subaru citing the Porsche Cayenne and BMW's X5 as potential rivals. A quick glance inside the vast cockpit of the car shows that Subaru means business. The dashboard is straight out of a concept car, wrapping around the driver and passenger, but retaining a high-quality feel necessary to compete against the like of the benchmark BMW.
We are also promised dynamics befitting the Subaru badge, and thankfully the charismatic horizontally-opposed six-cylinder 'boxer' engine, in 3.0-litre form, is employed to power it all along. For the moment there is only an automatic gearbox option, but that could change if the B9 Tribeca makes it to Europe.
