Welcome to the Green Car Centre, brought to you by the Yahoo! Cars team. With so much focus on the environment and the impact that our cars have on it, we thought it worth having a microsite dedicated to all things green in the car world.

That doesn't mean that Yahoo! Cars have abandoned our interest in all things motoring, just that we acknowledge that a car's CO₂ emissions are as valid a talking (and buying) point as is a car's 0-60mph time or its handling prowess. Hopefully along the way we'll discover cars that excel at both.

You'll find regular updates in the News section, detailing all that is happening in the automotive world that is relevant in some way to the environment. You might argue that all car news affects the environment, but here we'll focus on burning issues, legislation changes and how they affect you, as well as the latest cars to purport to be 'green'.

In Reviews, we'll put so-called green cars to the test ourselves. Some may argue that a V8-engined Lexus luxury saloon has no place on this site, despite housing a hybrid powertrain, but we'll put forward the case for and against and let you decide. Remember that a humble, old-fashioned petrol or diesel car can still be considered to be an environmentally conscious purchase, so watch out for a myriad of interesting tests from behind the wheel from our experts.

As well as ratings and a comprehensive photo gallery of green cars, we'll be writing a series of articles describing the technology under the bonnets and behind the fuels themselves. Here you'll discover in depth analysis of how various new technologies work, alongside descriptions of some of the buzzwords you might have noticed flying around in the media at the moment.
