Following on from a near five per cent slump in sales, the Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) group has announced that it is looking for 400 voluntary redundancies from its production plants in the UK.
Workers in Castle Bromwich, Solihull and Halewood have all been offered voluntary redundancy packages, while it is also reported that some employees have been presented with the option of three months' leave at 80 per cent of their salary.
The move comes as part of the continuing global financial crisis, as JLR recognises the need to prevent the stockpiling of unsold vehicles.
A buyout of JLR from Ford earlier this year by the massive Indian conglomerate, Tata, was seen as a positive step for the company, but now the 16,000 or so employees in Britain face uncertainty once again.
