Volkswagen is gearing up to launch its new four-door Coupe model at the Geneva motorshow in March, but before then potential customers can get a peak at the car on a teaser website. VW is looking to take on the BMW 3 Series with the Passat-based Coupe, which is said to be styled in a similar vein to the Mercedes-Benz CLS saloon.
Volkswagen has confirmed that the new car will be called Coupe, but will not give any more details about the car. However, a VW insider says the entry-level engine will be the 197bhp 2.0-litre turbo from the Golf GTI with either six-speed manual or DSG dual-clutch gearboxes.
There will also be a 170bhp 2.0-litre turbodiesel and the 3.6-litre V6 engine from the Passat R36 - with 296bhp and a DSG gearbox. The top of the range V6 model is also set to come with 4Motion four-wheel drive as standard.
The Coupe heads up a busy year for Volkswagen, which will also launch the new Scirocco coupe and next generation Golf over the next 12 months. There's also the Up! city car on the way in 2009 and derivatives based on that platform.
