Hyundai gets its teeth into this crossover idea
Hyundai has been wheeling out interesting concept designs for a number of years now, though few make it anywhere near production. We fear that the HCD9 Talus is another destined to do the motor show circuit and not much else. I can't see Hyundai adding a 4.6-litre V8 petrol engined four-wheel drive sports car on stilts to its range in the near future.
Production possibilities aside, the Talus is a pretty cool looking concept, though the darkly lit Hyundai stand did it no favours. Sitting on massive 22-inch polished aluminium deep-dish wheels, the concept is how Hyundai sees the future of the sports car in the USA. It is to appeal to traditional SUV owners that are used to a commanding view of the road, and the utility of four-wheel drive and good ground clearance, but the shapely upper body should appeal to people that still want a sports car. Don't know about you, but it makes me think of Angelina Jolie in a big pair of steel toe-capped working boots...
Speaking of a fantasy world, the interior of the Talus concept is suitably forward looking, and accessed by four doors. The rearmost doors open backwards and the lack of a central pillar ensures that it is easy to get into the snug four-seat interior. A palette consisting of Sierra Brown and Black Chestnut is used to swathe the cockpit in leather, and blue LEDs and metallic finishes give the centre console in particular a jewel-like appearance.
