Porsche will finally officially unveil its Panamera 'Gran Turismo' four-door saloon at the Auto Shanghai show this April. The growing Chinese market is likely to be a profitable one for Porsche's new saloon, with the big four-door going on sale in tough economic times for luxury and performance car manufacturers. Porsche will offer the Panamera with a wide choice of engines and transmissions ranging from rear-wheel drive V6 models to twin-turbo four-wheel drive V8 models; power outputs varying from 300-500bhp.
The Panamera will be available with both a conventional six-speed manual transmission and Porsche's PDK double-clutch two-pedal automatic. The full range goes on sale in summer 2009, the Panamera's introduction coming off the back of Porsche's announcement of a significant overall 24% drop in North America sales in 2008. The marque explains away some of the fall in sales due to the changeover of both the Boxster/Cayman and 911 models series, pointing out that the Cayenne only saw an 11% drop in sales despite the difficult trading conditions.
Porsche remains bullish despite the tough economic situation, indeed Porsche SE has purchased further ordinary shares in Volkswagen AG, increasing its holding in the firm to 50.76%.
