Peugeot 107/Citroen C1/Toyota Aygo

The newest kids on the city car block are actually the same car; Peugeot, Citroen and Toyota all sell versions with the same structure (107, C1 and Aygo respectively). There is not much to choose between them really, though they miss out on top spot here because of the cost of the five-door versions in comparison to the class-leading Fiat Panda.

Saying that, if your budget allows a little more than Ł7,000, it is certainly worth taking a closer look at the Peugeot 107 family. The styling is ultra modern, though not what we'd call pretty; the interiors are great, with an emphasis on fun as well as functionality. Admittedly, the Panda is more fun to drive, but the 107 counters that with an impressive four stars in the benchmark Euro NCAP safety tests. Another plus point is a brand new range of efficient engines.
