Audi under lock and key

Gene Hunt and his sidekicks may be the stars of the new television series Ashes to Ashes, but the Audi quattro that replaces DCI Hunt's Cortina steals every scene with more grace than a cat burglar.

The upsurge in interest in quattros due to the television series - which goes on air tomorrow evening (Thursday 7 Feb) - means that Audi UK has to go to great lengths to protect its very own example, which just happens to be the last ever right-hand drive version made.

Audi UK boss Jeremy Hicks said: "We would never be able to replace this car and its value is inestimable. We have received a succession of surprisingly high offers but this particular car will never be for sale."

The prized four-wheel drive coupé is unregistered and shows zero miles on the clock. This makes it hugely appealing to enthusiasts and some less trustworthy types, which is why Audi keeps the car under lock and key at a secret location, only showing the car at selected events.
