Yet another MINI concept show car
If you are a regular reader of our motorshow reports you'll know all about the series of MINI concepts; we've had Concept Frankfurt, Concept Detroit and Concept Tokyo. You'll not be too surprised to hear that on the MINI stand in
Geneva was, that's right, a Concept Geneva. Just how many variations on the Mini Traveller can there be?
As extensively documented elsewhere, these concept cars give big clues to the appearance of the next MINI and a larger version of it in the spirit of the original Mini Traveller/Countryman/Clubman Estate. So what's new about the Concept Geneva? Well, the theme is loosely based on the rampant success of the original Mini Cooper on the Monte Carlo Rally in the mid-sixties, though interestingly enough its designers are not suggesting that the show car be used in competition. Instead, it is decked out as a support vehicle for a classic Mini Cooper.
Practical bits and pieces include snow shovels, timing charts, a substantial tool-kit, a spare wheel on the roof and even a few boxes of Lucas bulbs. The 10-spoke alloys hark back to the original Minilite wheels, with a modern twist; the owner can change the covers to customise the colours to their liking. Following the '60s rally cars, the Concept Geneva is finished mainly in red and white, though the exterior colour is described as Satellite Silver. This colour scheme continues inside. Additions for the Concept Geneva include a fire extinguisher and a stopwatch built into the multi-function steering wheel. The question remains: when do we see the production version?
