Rinspeed zaZen

It would be easy to give credit to the well-known car makers for having the most exciting exhibits in Geneva, but that would do a disservice to some of the smaller outfits that produce show-stopping cars for Geneva. Rinspeed deserves third place in our run-down for the extraordinary zaZen concept car.

Based on the mechanicals of the Porsche 911, this show car uses a single piece transparent teardrop roof design. Bayer Material Science developed the roof using high tech plastics.

The innovative roof may have stolen the headlines, but seeing the car close up lets you see something Rinspeed calls a 'crystal skin', where millions of tiny Swarovski crystals are embedded in the surface. The Swarovski crystals also feature on the front and rear lights, as well as the side indicators. The result is literally dazzling.

Inside the zaZen is just as over the top, with transparent sports seats and a mango orange finish mixing with the basic Porsche 911 architecture. This concept may never make production, but apparently it will spawn a new eyewear collection...
