Most potent MINI launched

Geneva show-goers were treated to a first sight of the most powerful ever production MINI, the John Cooper Works (JCW).

The 211bhp MINI has a turbocharged 1.6-litre engine, does 0-62mph in 6.5 seconds and has a top speed of 148mph.

The JCW uses race-bred suspension and brakes, and it's the first to use a new traction control system to cope with its power.

The hatchback version of the MINI JCW still manages 40.9mpg combined economy and 165g/km carbon dioxide emissions.

The Clubman turns in 39mpg and 169g/km, and it's fractionally slower from 0-62mph at 6.8 seconds.

Both the Hatch and Clubman have well appointed cabins and 17-inch alloy wheels are standard, while a sporty body kit is an option.

The MINI John Cooper Works is expected to cost from £20,500 and the Clubman version from £21,700 when they go on sale in the UK from July.
