A series of new television adverts for the Smart Fortwo gets off to an explosive start with an ad titled 'Wrecking Ball'.

It sees a one tonne wrecking ball smashing in to the Smart at 25mph.

Smart says it shows how safe the Fortwo is as the stunt was carried out for real.

The car survived with minimal damage and could still be driven away afterwards.

After seeing the initial trial run for the advert, the stuntman sitting in the car even decided to not bother wearing a safety helmet and harness.

A second advert called 'Space' shows that a full-sized tumble dryer can be loaded into a Fortwo.

There's also a third ad, which is named 'Fuel Efficiency', that shows a Smart being driven 433 miles from London to Edinburgh on a single tank of fuel.

Smart will display the Fortwo from the Wrecking Ball advert at the Mercedes-Benz World at Brooklands, Surrey during the television campaign, which starts on 21 June.
