Ford reveals Kuga crossover

Ford will reveal its new Kuga crossover in 'near production form' next week at the Frankfurt Show. The Kuga, which derives its styling from Ford's Paris Show iosis X concept mixes estate car practicality with SUV ability and style. It will also deliver, Ford promises, 'on-road Focus DNA', though its intelligent four-wheel drive system will enable it to venture into the rough stuff, too. Crossovers are hot property in the car market at the moment, Nissan's genre defining Qashqai underlining the huge demand for vehicles combining off-road looks, a raised stance and car-like driving dynamics.

The Kuga will initially be offered with Ford's 134bhp 2.0-litre TDCi turbodiesel, other engines certain to join the range when it reaches the showrooms next summer. Practicality as well as style is key to the Kuga's appeal, the split rear tailgate offering excellent access to its large boot. Inside, Ford claims comfortable accommodation for five people, however the fine leather finish and orange piping exhibited on the Frankfurt cars is likely to be toned down for production models.
