Toyota debuted its third generation Avensis model at the Paris motor show, the British-built D-segment competitor a hugely significant new model in France.
What's all the fuss about?
With all the hot new metal at the Paris motor show you could be forgiven for having missed the Toyota Avensis. Shown in France for the very first time, the Avensis is a hugely significant model - not least because of the massive sales it generates for one of the world's biggest car companies. Designed in Europe and built exclusively at Toyota's Burnaston factory in the UK, patriotic British visitors should go and see the new car in hall 3 and support our British slice of Japan in France - if that makes any sense...
Anything that stands out?
The Toyota Avensis has always been something of a demonstration of how not to stand out and the new car is no different. Conservative in its styling when compared to rivals models in the D-segment, this Ford Mondeo chaser doesn't excite visually like some in the class can. Instead it offers what Toyota is consistently good at: solid dependable motoring with epic reliability, supreme dealer service and a comfortable, competent drive. The new Avensis offers all that, plus style with a little more edge - the rear look very similar to its Lexus LS460 relative. A smarter interior and a new and improved range of engines offering more refinement, lower emissions and improved economy should ensure the Avensis continues to appeal to masses of buyers.
When can I buy one?
The new Avensis goes on sale in the UK this coming January in both saloon and Tourer (estate) guises. Toyota has yet to reveal pricing for its new car, but expect a starting price of around £14,500.
