This harrowing picture shows the remains of a £110,000 Ferrari 360 Modena after a high-speed crash in County Durham. Incredibly, both occupants escaped with their lives after a passer by - who has not been identified - pulled them from the burning wreckage.
The driver, a 32-year-old man, was driving at high speed with his female passenger when it's thought he lost control on a bend and smashed through a hedge. The 37-year-old woman was airlifted to Sunderland Royal Hospital with multiple pelvic fractures, but the driver suffered only a broken ankle.
The Ferrari burst into flames after settling in a crop field, and it wasn't too long before it was engulfed in fire. It's a testament to the Ferrari's safety measures and strong aluminium and carbon fibre structure that the occupants' injuries aren't life threatening.
Supercars aren't tested by Euro NCAP because it's too expensive - the not-for-profit safety body buys half of the cars it tests, so crashing limited-production six-figure supercars simply isn't economical...
