BMW M3 Concept

There's been much postulation about the new BMW M3 and though the car shown in Geneva has been lumbered with the 'concept' tag, we expect the finished product to be changed very little indeed. BMW pulled a similar stunt with the M5 Concept car that then went into production unmolested.

That's great news for buyers, as the M3 has a lot to live up to, especially with newcomers such as the accomplished Audi RS4 and the forthcoming C-Class 63 AMG and likely RS5. What it will mean is a naturally-aspirated V8 under the bonnet with at least 400bhp and of course rear-wheel drive. What we're not clear on is the choice of gearbox. It's unlikely that BMW will ditch a manual altogether, but there are rumours that the sequential manual 'box may be quietly retired in favour of a DSG-like dual-clutch transmission, offering seamless, quick changes.
