Rather than diluting the Italian passion of the Lamborghini brand, Audi's ownership has given it a new, confident lease of life and each new model is greeted by eager buyers and journalists alike. The new Gallardo Superleggera is no exception!
Superleggera, as any self-respecting car nut knows, means 'super light' in Italian and well, this development of the Gallardo does what it says on the wings... At 1330kg, the Superleggera is a full 100kg lighter than the regular car. The weight loss is due to the extensive use of lightweight materials such as carbon fibre, aluminium and even polycarbonate on the engine cover instead of glass.
The results would have spoken for themselves in the performance figures, but Lamborghini thought it necessary to up the power output 10bhp to 530bhp. Considering that the Gallardo weighs nearly double the Lotus 2-Eleven, it's an achievement that it can accelerate just as hard away from a standing start.
