Infiniti and beyond

Infiniti is a completely new brand for European buyers and was launched at the Geneva show.

Infiniti is owned by Nissan - much like Lexus is owned by Toyota - and its cars have been on sale in the USA and Japan for 20 years.

It will be 2009 when the first Infinitis reach the UK and the range will include a saloon, coupé and luxury SUV.

The new FX50 SUV is a rival for the BMW X5 and has a 5.0-litre V8 engine packing 380bhp.

It drives all four wheels through a seven-speed automatic gearbox and comes with a host of clever electronics to maintain traction.

The FX50 will have every luxury goody imaginable as standard, including DVD satellite navigation, leather seats with electric adjustment, premium stereo and 21-inch alloy wheels.

It will also have adaptive suspension that the driver can alter to suit the driving conditions.

The other Infiniti models are made up of the EX37 crossover to rival the BMW X3, the G37 Coupé with a 305bhp 3.7-litre V6 engine and the G Sedan with the sameV6 engine to rake on the likes of the new Jaguar XF and Mercedes E-Class.

Infiniti will announce prices for its range of cars closer to them going on sale and it will also reveal its dealer network nearer that time.
