Lancia is planning to start selling its cars in the UK from 2009, 15 years since it last had a foot-hold in the British market.
The Italian firm will kick off sales with a new Delta hatchback model that will offer greater luxury than the likes of the Ford Mondeo or Mazda6.
Lancia intends to offer the Delta with sumptuous cabins and generous equipment levels as standard.
Engines will include 118- and 148bhp 1.4-litre petrol engines and a 118bhp 1.4-litre turbodiesel.
After the Delta has been launched, a 1.9-litre diesel with 163bhpand a 2.0-litre turbodiesel with 187bhp will be added. A 197bhp 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol unit will also be added after launch.
Six-speed manual gearboxes will be standard across the range, with the option of a new semi-automatic gearbox.
Parent company Fiat says the Lancia Delta is expected to cost from £14,000, but it's unlikely we'll see a revival of the famous Integrale version.
